Munghal Review

1. Describe Munghal's beginnings in Indea:
began with a long bloody clash between muslims and hindus.

2. Describe the rule of Akbar in India:
recognized military power as root of strength and equipt the army with heavy metal cannons, also apointed his enemies as military officers which helped unify India.

3. Describe the rule of Shahah Jahan:
while he was building beautiful things, his country was sufering. farmers needed tools, roads, and ways of irrigation . all they got were higher taxes.

4. Describe the rule of Aurangzeb in India and how it lead to the Mughl decline:
drained the empire off all its resources and the loyalty of the people so after his death his sons fought for power when local lords power grew. it made the emperor into no more than a wealth figurehead.

5. Describe Europen Influence in India:
first came the portuguese, than the Dutch, and finally the British which took part of India for their own.

Japan Review

Describe how Samurai ruled Japan:
Took control of old feudal states offering protection for loyalty. Much like the European feudal system.

Describe the rule of the Nobunaga in Japan:
Sought to eliminate his remaining enemies, and hoped to gather enough power to rule the entire county.

Describe the rule of Hideyoshi in Japan:
By 1590 he conquered most of Japan and moved on to Korea.

Describe the rule of Ieyasu in Japan:
Completes the unification of Japan, this earned him loyalty of the daimyo then 3 years later became sole leader or Japan called the Shogun.

Describe the culture of Japan under Ieyasu:
Gov was still done at the local level, demanded that daimyo spend every other year at the capital and leave their families as hostages.

Describe Europe’s interaction with Japan and why Japan cuts off the interaction:
Traders brought things like socks, eyeglasses, tobacco, and firearms. Christianity was brought in by missionaries, cut off by Japan in attempt to control foreign ideas. Allowed missionaries caused valued European trade and chaos on Japan. The Gov could not control it so they closed the country. No one could leave or come in.

Describe the Ming Dynasty:
China became dominant power in Asia under Ming rule. Paid regular tribute by other states and expected Europeans to do the same.

Describe the Rule of Hongwu:
First Ming ruler after leading the Chinese in driving out Mongols. Began reforms designed to restore agricultural lands devastated by war.

Describe Ming trade and relations with foreign govs:
Everywhere they went they delivered gifts to show Chinese superiority, therefore many countries came to china’s court.

Describe the culture of the Qing Dynasty:
Families favored sons over daughters, and often times would kill the girl at birth if they already had one.

Describe why Henry VIII decides to leave the Catholic Church:
Because he was convinced that his wife would not have anymore kids, so she could not give him a son heir, so he tried to divorce her, but the Pope said no.

Describe How Henry VIII leaves the Catholic Church:
He turned to parliament who: strips the Pope of his power, grants divorce, made king head of Church of England, and passed law saying not reasonable for any foreigner including Pope.

Describe Henry VIII’s successors:
Edward VI kept church Protestant, Mary Tudor returned church to Catholicism, Elizabeth returned to Protestantism.

Describe Calvin:
Became protestant in college were he was almost arrested, published “Institutes of Christian Religion” which formalized protestant beliefs.

Describe Knox:
Created Presbyterian Church in Scotland based on the ideas of Calvin.

People being able to interpret the Bible in their own ways.

“Praise of Folly” going after pompous priests, and “Utopia” telling about a society that was, basically, perfect.

Allowed criticism of renaissance Popes, printed books on religion encouraged popular piety, printing pres made bible available to all.

Well, for 50 years artist Ghiberti made bronze doors for the baptistery, and Brunelleschi created the dome for the cathedral. Other artists also created paintings, sculptures, and statues.

Middle Ages part 1 Review


Describe how Germanic Invaders affected the Roman Empire:
Learning declined with many Romans moving to the country.

Describe German Adoption of Christianity:
Leader Clovis converted to Christianity to help with battle, with his support many people converted, many missionaries also spread the word.

Describe the rule of Charlemagne:
Was a conqueror, but also spread Christianity throughout his rain, but was also crowned emperor by the pope, marking the first time a pope had claimed political power.

Describe the Viking and other invaders of Charlemagne’s kingdom:
Invaders destroyed the Carolingian empire. Muslims attacked from the South and the Vikings attacked from North.

Describe the Feudal System:
The king came first, then the knights who were mounted horsemen, then at the bottom were the peasants and serfs.

Describe the Feudal Manor Life:
Lords provided serfs with housing, farmland, and protection from bandits. Peasants never went very far away from the manor. They were almost completely self efficient.

1. The Fertile Crescent is a crescent shaped region that once provided/provides fertile soil to the land around it.

2. Mesopotamia is the land between rivers and the beginning of civilization; writing, agriculture, and cities.

3. City- states are independent countries with their own leaders, rules and regulations.

4. If your father and his fathers before him were to have ruled your country and now it’s your turn, you would belong to a dynasty, a sequence of rulers belonging to the same family.

5. Cultural diffusion is the spreading of a cultural trait, like religion and agriculture.

6. Polytheism basically means that you believe in more than one god.

7. Empires rule many countries over one single authority. For example, the British Empire, or The Chinese Emperor.

8. Hammurabi is the ruler who established the greatness of Babylon, and created the first ever written/recorded set of laws called Hammurabi’s Code.

18. New Kingdom was the time after the rule of the Hyksos, the time of the female pharaoh’s, Ramses the great, and Tutankhamen the boy king.

19. Queen Hatshepsut was longest of all female rulers in Egypt, and her funerary temple still stands as a tribute to her incredible rise to power.

20. Thatmose III is considered to be one of Egypt’s greatest warrior heroes.

21. Nubia is a desert land divided by the Nile River.

22. Ramses II was the third ruler of the 19th dynasty.

23. Kush is an ancient Nubian kingdom whose rulers controlled Egypt between 2000 and 1000 B.C.
