Renaissance Part 1 Review

Directions: Under each complete the phrase, answer the question

Describe how the Renaissance began:
Urban centers held lots of opportunities and resources. Merchants dominated.

Describe Giotto:
Created the allusion of depth, painted real life like pictures, and painted the arena chapel.

Describe the Divine Comedy:
Roman poet Vigil guides on tour of the inferno, him and Dante visit purgatory, they were guided through heaven by monk St. Bernard and meet the muse Betrice.

Describe Why Florence was the Birth of the Renaissance:
The celebration of individuals, their love of classical learning, and the enjoyment of worldly pleasures.

Describe How Artist Beautified Florence:
Well, for 50 years artist Ghiberti made bronze doors for the baptistery, and Brunelleschi created the dome for the cathedral. Other artists also created paintings, sculptures, and statues.

Middle Ages part 1 Review


Describe how Germanic Invaders affected the Roman Empire:
Learning declined with many Romans moving to the country.

Describe German Adoption of Christianity:
Leader Clovis converted to Christianity to help with battle, with his support many people converted, many missionaries also spread the word.

Describe the rule of Charlemagne:
Was a conqueror, but also spread Christianity throughout his rain, but was also crowned emperor by the pope, marking the first time a pope had claimed political power.

Describe the Viking and other invaders of Charlemagne’s kingdom:
Invaders destroyed the Carolingian empire. Muslims attacked from the South and the Vikings attacked from North.

Describe the Feudal System:
The king came first, then the knights who were mounted horsemen, then at the bottom were the peasants and serfs.

Describe the Feudal Manor Life:
Lords provided serfs with housing, farmland, and protection from bandits. Peasants never went very far away from the manor. They were almost completely self efficient.

Exit Ticket:
1. To stay in the manor you had to pay tax on grain grounds and marriage.
2. In Gaul, Germanic people named Franks held power.
3. Charlemagne built and empire greater then any since the roman empire.
