Directions: Under each complete the phrase, answer the question

Describe why Henry VIII decides to leave the Catholic Church:
Because he was convinced that his wife would not have anymore kids, so she could not give him a son heir, so he tried to divorce her, but the Pope said no.

Describe How Henry VIII leaves the Catholic Church:
He turned to parliament who: strips the Pope of his power, grants divorce, made king head of Church of England, and passed law saying not reasonable for any foreigner including Pope.

Describe Henry VIII’s successors:
Edward VI kept church Protestant, Mary Tudor returned church to Catholicism, Elizabeth returned to Protestantism.

Describe Calvin:
Became protestant in college were he was almost arrested, published “Institutes of Christian Religion” which formalized protestant beliefs.

Describe Knox:
Created Presbyterian Church in Scotland based on the ideas of Calvin.
